having tails in a sonic amp knuckles level like mushroom hill zone is something that could only be done in the combined sonic 3 amp knuckles.
i made tails take a higher route for act 1 compared to my sonic amp tails version but its completely possible to get sonic on his own up there too.
since mushroom hill is the first sampk level in s3ampk every special stage will now be about upgrading the chaos emeralds into super emeralds.
getting them all will finally give tails the ability to transform into super tails. super tails just has lighter fur that glows slowly and he can move faster on the ground and through the air. he can still get tired flying too long however. and since this is only a super transformation he still cant breathe underwater like the hyper forms can in most of the sonic 3 zones.
the biggest quirk of super tails is how he is accompanied by four super flickies. these super flickies will seek and destroy every single vulnerable enemy in the game including all the bosses with only a couple of exceptions.
because of this you could just beat a boss by standing still and letting your golden bird allies do all the work. when tails changes back to normal so do the flickies which then leave the screen.
i had a bit more fun with this part than i should have. when i realized i didnt have all the blue super emeralds special stages sphere i had to rely on a lot of luck to find it and beat the stage anyway. consider it a fluke though because i shouldnt have been able to do that.
manipulating the screen by flying over act 2s starting boss field and letting one of the birds hit eggman out of the ground causes the games background layers to glitch up while fighting eggman making the screen split a bit and showing where those flickies are when they leave.
conclusion super tails is broken i wonder what a hyper tails would be like he would grind this great game into dust.
update 10715 apparently my wonder above was already answered by this point. the super tails that you see in this game was originally going to be hyper tails himself. this can be seen in some of the dumped roms of sonic 3 where tails had two transformations super tails and hyper tails.
the super tails in those beta copies was simply the same as this final one you see in this video except he didnt have any super flickies to accompany him. the hyper tails youd be able to unlock in beta versions however brings those birds back.
i guess when the entire sonic 3 amp knuckles game was complete they decided to cut the original version of super tails and reintroduce their planned hyper tails as the real super tails.
